Those times
When you stand up for truth
When you defend what is noble
And someone says:
”You went too far,
I hurt.”
I believe in that even as
I defend myself. A while passes
I flee to something familiar
Sleep.
Wake up and wish I could say:
”I have cancer. Terminal. Must do something grand before time’s up.”
And I’d find a soul who’d say we’d fight together
‘til the bitter end.
And I’d fight. Win.
And sleep.
